Trans Nzoia gubernatorial candidate George Natembeya of DAP-K has harshly condemned his opponents for sending goons to destroy his billboards five days ahead of the general election.
Addressing the media at his Ukombozi Center, Natembeya said the billboards within the Kitale Municipality were destroyed on Tuesday night by unknown people who were captured on camera.
He said his team is scrutinizing the photos to identify those involved in the destruction of the billboards.
Natembeya said the act is against the electoral conduct that all candidates signed during the clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“We also have the power to do so, but it will be a stupid act, so we can’t do that to our opponents. Let the voters decide who will be the governor. These billboards were raised by mama mboga and boda boda’s, so my opponents have not wronged me but the electorates, and from this, you can tell leaders with black hearts. Do not begin a war that you cannot finish,’’ said Natembeya.
He also asked that youths not be used to cause chaos in his strongholds on election day. Natembeya said that he has information that his main opponent is planning to sponsor youths to intimidate voters through chaos.
He called on electorates to turn up in large numbers on the election day and vote for him as the second Trans Nzoia governor, warning electorates against selling their ID cards to his opponents.
Natembeya said their ID cards can be used wrongly and land them in unexpected problems while they are innocent.
Among other leaders affected by the deliberate act of destroying billboards is Hospital Ward candidate for DAP-K Erick Wafula.
