Cleophas Malala, the gubernatorial candidate for Amani National Congress (ANC) for Kakamega County, has promised to pay for free lunch for day school learners if elected governor.
Speaking to his supporters in Lukero, Mumias, the former senator said this is part of his plan to improve the standards of education in the county.
“From next week (if elected), I will pay for all day scholars money for lunch. No headteacher will send a child home for money for lunch,” he said.
The hopeful candidate also said that most of the county jobs will go to learners without a Form Four certificate, and those with certificates will have to find a place in tertiary institutions.
Apart from that, Malala intends to set up an NHIF program for elderly households in Kakamega, provide quality and affordable health services in hospitals, review the minimum requirements for county enforcement jobs for youths and promote a healthy environment for traders.
He also has an agenda built around a Sh300 million revolving fund for women and youth groups and equal opportunities for both genders.
The election, which was carried forward to 29 August 2022 due to a mix-up of ballot papers, will have its campaign reach a close tomorrow with each camp holding major rallies.
