Khang’ati will now back National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Former Kanduyi Member of Parliament Alfred Waswa Khang’ati has officially defected from the Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) party to the Ford-Kenya party.

Khang’ati said he will back Ford Kenya candidate Wafula Wakoli in the Bungoma Senate by election that will be held on Dec 8.

Khang’ati was a one term MP from 2007 to 2013.

In 2013, he vied for Bungoma gubernatorial seat on ODM party but was floored by Governor Ken Lusaka.

In 2017,he tried his second stab at the seat but he was defeated by Wycliffe Wangamati.

With two weeks remaining to election, it remains a matter of watch and see if Khang’ati move will tilt Bungoma politics.

Over the weekend, National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula marshalled his Ford Kenya troops to comb the constituencies in a bid to drum up support for Ford Kenya candidate Wafula Wakoli.

Wetang’ula was accompanied by several MPs allied to President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, who won the seat on UDA party ticket, is also supporting Ford Kenya candidate Mr. Wakoli.

Political pundits have that the race pits UDA and Ford-Kenya.

Other candidates in the race are Mwambu Mabonga (UDA), Enock Makokha (Independent), former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi (DAP) and Raidon Munoko of Roots Party.
