Lugari Member of the National Assembly, Nabii Nabwera, seized the opportunity during the education committee meeting with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO, Nancy Macharia, to decry some of the challenges facing schools in his constituency as a result of poor management.
The MP, who is keen on boosting education levels in the constituency, notably cited the issue at Mufutu Secondary School in Lugari Ward, saying its ‘absentee’ principal, Tom Kitiabi, was one of the reasons for the school’s misfortunes.
“The principal’s absenteeism has even led to strikes but nothing is being done. That makes me look bad as the area MP,” Nabwera said.
Mufutu Secondary School students recently went on a rampage demanding key reforms in the school’s management system.
Mr. Nabwera also blamed the TSC for the failure of the management at Bishop Njenga Girls, where he said the Commission transferred a school principal who oversaw a mean score of 8.9 points and replaced one who had posted a mean score of 3.4 points at their previous school.
“At Kivaywa High, TSC didn’t want to believe us, the principal was interdicted after causing the death of several watchmen,” he added.
Ms. Macharia asked the MP to meet the Commission individually and present his grievances, saying it is mandated to take action against incompetent principals.
“I may not have those details. We are very clear, if a school continues on the decline, principals are served a warning,” Macharia said.
