Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has pledged to initiate Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) reforms by hiring more tutors to meet the demand of the 45,928 pupils.
Speaking to ECDE tutors at the county headquarters, Natembeya said his administration will ensure classroom construction meets the required standards to allow pupils to learn in a conducive environment, apart from introducing a pilot feeding program in selected schools.
Natembeya said he will equip special needs tutors with fresh training on how to handle the learner with improved schemes of service instead of being paid with mere allowances.
The County Executive Committee Member in charge of education, Julia Kichwen, said there are plans to ensure ECDE centers are self-sufficient so that they are not reliant on primary schools for materials.
Tutors further challenged the governor to ensure at least 1,838 teachers are hired to meet the UNESCO teacher student ratio of 1:25.
