A story by the Western Kenya Times about a girl’s plight for education has borne fruit after a well-wisher wired money all the way from the Saudi Arabia to pay her fees to allow her to join Form One.
Faith Makungu, who scored 302 marks in the KCPE 2022 at Macho Primary School, shared her story of how she and her sister, Barbra Alivitsa, who scored 277 marks in the same school, lacked the means to join Form One.
Faith can now smile after Mohamed Sadik, a Kenyan working in Saudi Arabia, saw their story on the Western Kenya Times Twitter handle and offered to pay for her Form One fees as well as the rest of her education at Friends Mugunga Secondary School, Lugari.
Mr. Sadik sent a total of Sh45,665 on Tuesday through the Western Kenya Times, money meant to clear the Sh36,665 Form One fees and the Sh9,000 for her mother’s medical bill.
The good Samaritan said the story touched him and made him look many years back when women could not afford education.
“In the last 100 years, women have been neglected and their work was to look after cattle but in today’s world, women have been given an opportunity to learn. In the next 100 years, women will be in the best ever position,” he told the Western Kenya Times on phone.
On the other side, Ms. Agenes Kulundu, the principal of Friends School Mugunga, offered to cater for the complete boarding school requirements for Faith, also after reading her story in the Western Kenya Times.
“I was touched with the story and told Tom Lutali to bring the kids to me. I am a mother, I know the challenges. Faith will learn with the help of God,” she said.
Mama Everlyne Andego, Faith and Barbara’s single mother who raises them alone, thanked Mr. Sadik and Ms. Kulundu for their support.
“I lack words to say, but God Bless you. Let the Almighty God expand their boundaries,” she said.
Faith Makungu also expressed her happiness and promised to work hard and change the story of her family.
Barbara Alivitsa has also been accomodated and he will continue with her education at Ivona Mixed Secondary School after the principal Mr. Muyekho offered to buy her all the requirements and pay her fees.
