Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 70, has been declared president-elect of the Republic of Nigeria by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The ruling party, All Progressive Congress, candidate garnered 8.79 million votes, the lowest in the history of elections in the West African country.

The election, one of the most hotly contested of Nigeria’s polls, experienced a considerably low voter turnout and tensions in some parts.
The main opposition challenger Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, had 6.98 million votes, while Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State who appealed to younger voters, garnered 6.1 million votes.
