A 39-year-old man from Soweto in Lumakanda Ward of Lugari Sub-county, Kakamega County, met a gruesome fate at the hands of a wrathful mob after he was accused of purloining a chicken.
His uncle, Fred Mulama, said he received news that his nephew, Collins Shorelo, had been cornered at a home in Kambi Toyota in Kipkaren on Sunday in possession of stolen chicken.
He said the man had told him he was going to church.
Shorelo faced the mob’s brutal revenge, meted out with primitive weapons that inflicted a fatal blow, snuffing out his life at around 1 p.m.
Mr. Mulama said the news of his nephew’s death is a tragedy to the family, but it comes as no surprise.
“He is known for such acts and has been caught several times in theft incidents, including pilfering cattle,” he said.
Police took the body of the deceased to Webuye Mortuary pending postmortem as the family prepares for his burial.
