Brenda Nanyama, the girl who was found in Sugoi in Uasin Gishu County after disappearing from home for two months, says that she had gone to look for a job.
The 18-year-old girl, a Form Three student at Friends Lukhokho Girls Secondary School, caused her parents agony and despair after missing in action from home on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at their home in Rusinga Village in Chekalini Ward, Lugari Sub-County.
Her parents said they found her safe and sound on Wednesday, and now she is at home, ready to go back and continue with her studies.
The young lady said she decided to escape from home after a little disagreement with her parents to a place as far as her legs could take her.
Her father, Kenneth Katana, said she took a motorbike at Lumakanda on the fateful day.
She eventually found herself at the home of a woman in Sugoi who took care of her. The Good Samaritan, during the two months Brenda was missing, was trying to connect her back to her family.
The young lady found solace in her newfound sanctuary, while her parents, drenched in an ocean of worry and despair, kept their hopes alive, praying for her safe return.
“It seems Brenda was a little disturbed because it took so long before the woman could reach out to us,” Brenda’s mother, Catherine Katana, said, adding that she was overjoyed when she received a call from the kind-hearted woman about the whereabouts of her daughter.
Friends School Lukhokho deputy principal, Ms. Metrine Wamalwa, said that the student’s father called to confirm she had been found in safe hands, and would like her back to school.
“He called me yesterday (Thursday) to report that the girl is safely back home. We didn’t get into details because he promised to bring her to school soonest… but he still hasn’t,” the deputy principal said.
Mr. Katana, in a story published on March 10th, expressed his fear about his missing daughter.
“I cannot sleep. I always imagine something bad has happened to her, such as the two accidents that occurred yesterday at Magut and Chimoi, in which I thought maybe my daughter was among those who were burned beyond recognition or she died in a similar manner elsewhere,” Mr. Katana said.
“Whether pregnant, injured, or dead, I just want to know her fate and get over it,” Mr. Katana had said.
