The girl from Rusinga Village in Chekalini Ward, Lugari Sub-county, who went missing two months ago, has been found after a stranger reached out to her family after reading the story in the Western Kenya Times.
Brenda Nanyama, 18, a Form Three student at Friends Lukhokho Secondary School in Lwandeti Ward, Lugari Sub-county, was found in Sugoi in Uasin Gishu County on Wednesday.
Brenda disappeared on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at around 10 a.m. when her father and mother were not at home and had left her with her siblings, who were also unaware of the direction she took.
Her father, Kenneth Katana Kaburu, who made several reports to police stations and to the media seeking help to trace his lovely daughter, expressed joy and said he found her safe and sound.
Mr. Katana said the girl took a motorbike from Lumakanda to Sugoi on the fatefull day and found herself at the home of a woman in Sugoi while searching for a job.
He said he would give more details about how he found her daughter later.
Friends School Lukhokho deputy principal, Ms. Metrine Wamalwa, confirmed that the student’s father called to confirm she had been found in safe hands, and would like her back to school.
“He called me yesterday (Thursday) to report that the girl is safely back home. We didn’t get into details because he promised to bring her to school soonest… but he still hasn’t,” the deputy principal said.
Mr. Katana, in a story published on March 10th, expressed his fears about his missing daughter.
“I cannot sleep. I always imagine something bad has happened to her, such as the two accidents that occurred yesterday at Magut and Chimoi, in which I thought maybe my daughter was among those who were burned beyond recognition or she died in a similar manner elsewhere,” Mr. Katana said.
Efforts to find her proved futile, even after two men were arrested and put in police custody at the Lumakanda Police Station in connection with the incident. The men denied knowing where she was and were not linked to her disappearance.
“Whether pregnant, injured, or dead, I just want to know her fate and get over it,” Mr. Katana had said.
