Arsenal Fans Lugari Branch members have today planted at least 1000 trees in two schools in Mautuma Ward as a special gesture for this Easter holiday.

The football fans, made up of 55 young men and women who support Arsenal FC, a team that graces English Premier League, planted at least 1000 trees at Ivona Mixed Secondary School and Mbagara Primary School.

Joining the exercise was Mautuma Location Chief Ms. Pamela Kulali, who recently planted a whooping 1,100 trees in four schools in the same ward.

The group’s chairman, Ayub Okwako, said the initiative, apart from being symbolic for the Easter holiday, is geared towards the common good of conserving the environment amid the pressing climate change crisis.

“To be a fan is to not only bask in victory. We also champion for societal goods such as taking care of the environment,” he said.

Levings Levy, a member, said the group was formed with the aim of empowering themselves and society.

“Our love for the game and Arsenal as a team was the only thing that could unite us regardless of religion, class, age, or region. Our program is geared towards empowering the community on the importance of conserving the environment, the effects of drug abuse, etc.,” he said.

In addition to their advocacy, the group also has a welfare program that supports members in times of crises.
