Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera has said that schools with a low learner population will not benefit from his Ondoa Matope program, designed to replace deteriorating school infrastructure with modern facilities.
In a meeting with residents of Lugari Location in Lugari Ward at Kilulu Primary, the MP noted that due to its low enrollment, the school won’t receive new classrooms to replace its mud-walled structures.
“So you want me to build classrooms in a school that has 100 learners and ignore one with 800 learners?” The MP said while responding to the acting headteacher of Kilulu Primary’s request for new classrooms.
The legislator highlighted the government’s funding allocation process, indicating that schools with larger populations typically receive priority for classroom construction projects.
“At Panpaper Primary School, learners were attending classes under a tree and I constructed for them a story-building for classrooms. The same happened to Mahiga and Tekoa primary schools,” he said.
Nabii expressed a preference for schools like Lake Basin Primary, which boasts a student population of 300, indicating a prioritization based on student numbers
In a final remark, he urged parents to enroll their children in local schools to bolster student populations, thereby increasing the likelihood of government funding support.
The MP was engaging residents in a discussion on the last-mile electricity connectivity to all households, an initiative scheduled to commence next week.
