Former Lugari MP and Kakamega gubernatorial candidate, Cyrus Jirongo, has vowed not to shelve his ambition as directed by the Azimio la Umoja camp, of which his party, the UDP, is part.
Azimio la Umoja, led by its presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga, is pushing for aspirants from affiliate parties contesting for seats should drop their bids to avoid sibling rivalry.
Jirongo, who was addressing his supporters in Kakamega on June 25, made it clear that he was not willing to do that and insisted that the parties should be given space to field their candidates.
This follows reports that Azimio will conduct opinion polls to establish the most popular candidate for various posts and persuade other aspirants to shelve their bids and support the favorites, a move protested by many other contestants.
Tharaka Nithi County Narc-Kenya gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Mzalendo Kibunjia, has rejected attempts to make him drop his bid for Jubilee’s Erustus Njoka.
“I am not dropping my ambitions for the county chief position, because I am the one to better the lives of Tharaka Nithi County residents,” he said.
