Fernandes Barasa of ODM has won the Kakamega gubernatorial race after garnering a total of 192,929 votes, beating his closest opponent, Cleophas Malala of ANC, who received a total of 159,508 votes.
Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo of UDP got 5,974 votes, Mr. Suleiman Sumba of Kanu 178 votes, Mr. Samuel Omukoko of MDP 761 votes, Michael Osundwa, an independent candidate, 1,146 votes and Austin Opitso Otieno, also an independent candidate, 761 votes.
Malala, while addressing journalists at the Golf Hotel in Bungoma, conceded defeat, saying that he accepts the decision of Kakamega voters and that no votes were stolen.
Mr. Barasa, after the victory and being given the certificate, was escorted by supporters to his home in Harambee, Mumias.
