Kenya to receive 10,000 tons of imported duty-free maize today

The consignment is expected to arrive later today.

Kenya will be receiving 10,000 tons of imported maize as the duty-free consignment docks at the port of Mombasa today.

The government announced recently a duty-free window on maize produce, and the consignment is arriving even before a gazette notice to legally allow in such imports.

Nation reported this morning that the consignment is aboard an African Merlin vessel as Trade CS Moses Kuria says that the gazette notice will be made this week to allow traders to import genetically modified maize and conventional grain.

The government intends to import 10 million bags of maize in the next six months to address the shortage of food in drought-striken areas.

It’s hard to understand this government. Already receiving the maize before even a gazette notice
