Kibabii University in Bungoma has published the names of students who sat exams despite not having cleared their fee balances as required by the institution’s regulations.
In a memo shared on the institution’s official Facebook page, the office of the Registrar of Academic Affairs listed the registration numbers of 65 students accused of the mischief.
“The students whose registration numbers are listed below, sat for examinations with fees balances, contrary to Section 3.7(ii) (v) of the Examinations Handbook which stipulates that sitting for examinations without payment of fees is an examination irregularity punishable by suspension for one (l) academic year,” read the first paragraph of the memo.
The university has directed the students to sit the exams afresh when next offered and only after clearing their fee balances.
“Senate in its 7th Senate Board of Examiners meeting held on I I th January, 2023 declared the said examinations Null and Void, and directed that the affected students pay the fees balances and apply for examinations in the said courses when next offered, the memo further read.
Clearing fees before seating exams is a requirement in all public universities in Kenya and cheating your way into an exam room is regarded an offense.
