Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya joined Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga for campaigns to hunt votes from the Mulembe nation.
Raila and leaders from the Mulembe community, who included governors, senators and MPs addressed campaign rallies at the Kitale Stadium in Trans Nzoia, Naitiri, Kimilili and concluded the vote hunt with a meeting at Posta Grounds in Bungoma town on Friday.
Dr. Oparanya told residents of Bungoma to join other members of the community in voting for Raila so as to be part of his government. He told them not to be deceived by Senator Moses Wetang’ula who is drumming support for Deputy President William Ruto, saying the move will be driving them to the opposition.
The governor was reacting to Raila’s thought that the recent opinion poll showed that he was only trailing in Bungoma out of the five counties.
“Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia and Trans Nzoia have decided Baba is their choice. It is only Bungoma that is letting us down. Let us join forces with others to be part of Raila’s government so that we can benefit more,” said Dr. Oparanya.
The leaders said they will step up campaigns in the region to ensure Raila and all Azimio candidates win more seats.
COTU boss Francis Atwoli, Defense Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Sospeter Ojaamong and Wycliffe Wangamati, MPs and candidates for various seats were present.
They all assured Raila full support in the incoming August elections.
