Kakamega County Deputy Governor-elect Ayub Savula now claims that he has been supporting Azimio la Umoja out of fear of harassment by the State.
Speaking at a funeral at Lumakanda on Saturday, the former Lugari MP said he and his two wives were raided by the sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in 2017 just after elections to force him to support Raila Odinga’s side, which was being supported by the government.
“I was to support Ruto’s presidency, but my friend, what I went through, only God knows. I was arrested at 2 am in a hotel and my first wife at 4 am, the second one at 5 am. We were all put in a cell on accusations that we had stolen Sh1.5 billion. We went to court and there was no evidence,” he said.
Savula further revealed that he would later be approached by an officer from the DCI with a request that he support the government’s side for the charges against him to be dropped.
“I told them to kill me…I have gone through a lot…The same government alleged that I had not remitted tax amounting to Kshs. 0.5 billion to Kenya Revenue Authority, and they froze my accounts to pin me down,” he said.
The leader alleged that state agents were used by the Jubilee administration to misuse power and harass non-supporters.
Savula went ahead to reveal that he is ready to work with President-elect William Ruto to foster development in Kakamega County.
He asked the new President-elect not to hunt down those who opposed his bid.
